Guys guys guys you don’t understand how much I loved seeing Sydney scenes in Free. They’re so detailed!!
Here’s my running commentary for this episode - THIS CHILD HAS A MORNING ROUTINE (but I ain’t ever seen eggs with white shells in Australia) - Rin is BALLIN if he’s living with that kind of view from his apartment. What is ironic though, is those apartments he walked out of used to be public housing. (Sirius Buildings, look it up) - Can see the back entry of the Museum of Contemporary Art…still can’t get over the fact Rin lives in The Rocks - The two places I can’t recognise are the intersection where Rin waits to cross and the scene where he pets the corgi…IT’S KILLING ME BECAUSE IT’S SO FAMILIAR - Ah Olympic Park pool again, sadly no train trips like Rin and Haru did in S2, otherwise perfect - I used to swim there too…I quit training in high school :’( - IT’S CHINATOWN - They’re eating dinner at Pancakes on The Rocks…that’s such a Japanese tourist thing to do ^_^ - They’re standing outside Market City near UTS Library…surprised at myself for being able recognising the signs from the shops across the road - That view from Blue Point Reserve <3 - The conversation that took 2 minutes would have taken 2 hours if they walked from their first location to the North Sydney Pool - I didn’t think that pool opened till late but I checked and it opens till 9pm! The more you know! it’ll be a good place to swim after work in summer :)
Alright fangirl moment over! If any of you guys find yourself in Sydney and want to do a Free! location pilgrimage don’t hesitate to ask me for location details :P
CONFIRMED HE PET CORGI AT TOWN HALL now i just need to know that intersection…also forgot to mention that gothic looking building is Scots Church on York St
LAST UPDATE
I found the bloody intersection
The animators took some artistic liberties with this scene but it was actually really easy to locate given the location paramaters *pushes up glasses*
You can see the matching details of the tiles here

Rin Matsuoka. Living in Sydney. I only have two questions.
One - “Where in Sydney”
Two - “how are you able to afford it???”
Even if he’s in some kind of scholarship or allowance, they ain’t enough to pay for them bills and rent. Though…I imagined that Rin has a side job (like once or twice in a week) …like retail assistant…in a sports or even swimwear store…like Speedos.
yo, another sydney sider!
and my reaction when I saw that view from his apartment: …yeah nah, not happening. Love KyoAni’s attention to detail in all the other scenes though
